Dave Hart is a versatile and playful guitarist/composer blending various styles of music, creating ambitious mixes from smooth jazz/rock to ambient soundscapes with touches of world & electronica. It’s all rolled up into the accessible vibe of a new age instrumental genre, ideal for those who like music to be a sensory escape from the world, interpretive and sound surrounding - but with a few surprises.
About this artist
For over 25 years, Dave’s musical curiosity has led to his own distinctive style in composition and arrangements - either through collaboration or solo efforts. After several band projects, he released his debut solo album 2007, Diversity.
Dave explains that "The song environments were created by combining acoustic and electric guitar arrangements with a Roland guitar synthesizer and other audio effects." Bringing together expansive and sonic atmospheres that bridge musical tastes, he says "It’s about bringing all my creative influences together and finding the ultimate expression from a single instrument. For me, that’s the guitar."
An over-the-hill wannabe rock star, but surprisingly young at heart, Dave strives to unfold the inner meanings and values that result from creating dynamic compositions.
Currently a musical instructor in Nanaimo with a unique range of musical knowledge and technical skill. He creates an environment where sharing music knowledge is fun, respected, encouraged and realized by novice and advanced students alike.
His goals are to continue promoting his music to a worldwide audience, knowledge sharing as well as developing future material with intriguing artists.
Ahh, the early years The year was 1977. It was summer and I was an impressionable teenager. Imagine the guitar-ific effect of seeing two of rock’s biggest acts at the time – KISS and Alice Cooper – in the space of one month. They were my first concerts, and I was immediately spellbound.
Wildly inspired, I turned to the guitar with complete obsession. Many months spent awkwardly playing "air guitar" with assorted household parts finally led to the real thing, and I began picking up guitar riffs and songs from the now 'classic' rock lineup:
- Rush
- Yes
- Pink Floyd
- King Crimson
|
- Jimi Hendrix
- Queen
- Led Zeppelin
- The Police
|
I originally was a self taught musician but eventually studied music theory and composition at Grant MacEwan Community College last century - (way back before the Internet) So over time guitar influences became a little more eclectic:
- Jeff Beck
- Peter Frampton
- Al Di Meola
- Guthrie Govan
- Steve Stevens
|
- Pat Metheny
- Frank Gambale
- Eric Johnson
- Steve Morse
- Paul Gilbert

The inspirations Everything around me inspires my senses, all the time. From travelling to various places, watching the change of seasons and other contacts with nature to meeting people are all continual influences.
Those were the seeds of inspiration for me to begin constructing the Diversity project. It amazes me how such deep emotional responses can be endlessly interpreted through instrumentation and eventually expressed to song. more...
